International Exchange FAQ:
1. How many partner schools does CEIBS have with exchange agreement in 2007?
In 2007, CEIBS has bilateral exchange agreement with over 30 top tier business schools, most of which are among the global top 50 list of the Financial Times. In 2007, CEIBS was ranked 9th globally in “international experience” by Financial Times.
2. How many students went overseas to exchange in 2007?
Based upon the exchange agreement with CEIBS’s partner schools, there are more than 80 slots available to 2006MBA students. 68 students finally go abroad for their study while the rest decide to stay on campus to take advantage of the incoming exchange students.
3. When does the exchange programme happen during the 18-month full time study at CEIBS?
The exchange programme will be held in Term 4, 2nd year of the 18 study. It is usually between September and December and the length varies at different schools between 2 and 4 months.
4. How can I meet the criteria of Exchange Programme?
A successful exchange student usually has met the following requirements:
- A good academic record at CEIBS, namely GPA
- Motivation, leadership, language skills, social responsibilities, dealing with stress/pressure, and international outlook
- Significant contributions to CEIBS by getting involved in Ambassador
- Programme, Student Committee, Student Clubs etc.
- The competition and slots availability of the exchange school
- Willingness to share the experiences with interested future students after returning by attending Exchange Info-Session, giving feedbacks etc.
5. What process should I take for the exchange programme application?
- Exchange slots released in February-March
- Application and interviews
- Decisions will be made
- Exchange school coordinator will contact you
- Complete the required application
- In June- July, Acceptance Letter and Visa Application Form
- Get prepared for your visa application (CEIBS Student Certificate, Financial Support,Insurances, Housing Arrangement, Passport, CEIBS transcript etc.)
- Arrange visa interview date in June-July
- Book flight ticket
- Get ready to take off!
6. What documents do I need for my visa application?
- Acceptance Letter from the exchange school
- Student Certificate from CEIBS (Provide your passport copy to CEIBS
- International Affairs Manager and it takes 3 weekdays to process)
- Transcript from CEIBS (An official copy from CEIBS should be requested by the student him/herself at Dean’s Office.)
- Insurance purchasing
- Contact the embassy or consulate for specific requirements.
7. How can I meet the CEIBS credit requirement for my overseas Exchange Study?
CEIBS requires our own MBA students 12 credits (i.e.144 contact hours) for the coming Term 4. This policy also applies to all exchange students for Term 4. The extra credits will not be accounted to reduce Term 5 credits at CEIBS. Please check with your overseas schools for the contact hours of your course taken. Upon completion, CEIBS will require an Academic Report from your school to evaluate your score and total Contact Hours.
8. If I can not meet the CEIBS Credits Requirement for any reason during Term 4, what should I do?
For all missing credits, you will have to make it up either in Term 3 or Term 5.
9. Can I get contact information from the students my exchange school or CEIBS alumni attending the same school?
Yes. Your exchange school usually has a system similar to our buddy programme. If not, CEIBS International Affairs Manager can assist you in finding a proper student with the cooperation from our partner schools. You also can get contact information of previous CEIBS students went to the same exchange school with you. Please contact me for more information.
10. What other preparation should I make for my exchange study?
You will obtain detailed instructions from your exchange school regarding the Visa requirement, Housing, Health Insurance, Course Bidding, etc. You are encouraged to contact your overseas exchange coordinator for any doubts.
11. Will my exchange school apply for my visa?
No. CEIBS students will be responsible for his/her visa application. Your exchange schools will provide you with an Acceptance Letter supporting your visa application. You need to apply for the visa by yourself.
12. If my Hukou is not in Shanghai, can I apply for my visa at foreign consulates in Shanghai?
Yes. When you start your MBA study at CEIBS, you are suggested to apply for the Temporary Residence Permit with the assistance of Logistics Department. It costs RMB5. What you need to provide includes your Chinese ID copy and 2*1inche-sized Photos.
13. Will my exchange school provide on-campus housing for me?
It depends on the policy of each individual school. Similar to CEIBS, on-campus housing usually gives priority to full-time MBA students. Please notice, on-campus housing is not necessarily cheaper than off-campus housing in overseas countries.
14. What should I do if I like to continue my on-campus housing after coming back?
Please contact Engineering Department for check-in and check-out procedures.
15. Can I leave my baggage for storage during my exchange period?
Yes. Students can leave baggage at the campus during the exchange as temporary check-out. Each item of baggage (limited to 0.2m³) will be charged RMB15 per month.
16. Can I take courses same in subjects with what I have taken at CEIBS?
In principle, we do not encourage you to take the same courses already taken at CEIBS. However, this policy can be flexible when the course content and structure are different from that of CEIBS. You will have to get approval from the Academic Director for your study plan. Otherwise, your credits will not be recognized for your degree requirement.
17. Should I send my application on-line or by courier service to overseas exchange schools?
Please follow the instruction of your school. You may need to send in on-line application at certain stages and courier/ express mail services are highly recommended if any hard copy required to send. CEIBS reception desk has corporate partner prices for our students.
