Working closely with the corporate world, COPE aims to generate practical and high impact knowledge, frameworks, and tools that enhance the capacity of corporations in China to execute their business strategies and create business competitiveness through cutting-edge people and organizational management practices. COPE's activities include:

   *Planning, organizing and conducting annual research projects around business issues of strategic relevance to corporations in China;
   *Publishing articles, books, cases, and designing teaching programs based on research findings and framework;
   *Organizing conferences with thought leaders from corporate, academic, or consulting worlds to discuss and disseminate key issues related to people and organizations in China.

Key Activities in 2005

1) Annual research project: "Globalization of Chinese Firms"

In view of the growing aspirations of many Chinese firms to go global, the Center has formed a research consortium to work closely with five leading Chinese firms -- BenQ, CIMC, Galanz, TCL-Thomson, and Trend Micro -- to study their strategies, challenges and organizational capabilities in globalization. Based on an extensive literature review, company document reviews, in-depth interviews and survey research, this project will generate research and teaching deliverables, including:

   1.Five case studies related to the globalization of Chinese firms
   2.Survey research with 30 Chinese firms regarding the strength of their global organizational capability
   3.A CEO Roundtable and Forum to be held in January 2006
  4.A book on the globalization of Chinese firms to be published in  English and Chinese in 2006
   5.A four-day executive education program to be offered in May 2006

2) HR Leadership Forum 2005: "Talent Management in China"

The Center is cooperating with the Human Resource Management Journal (Wiley) to co-sponsor an HR Leadership Forum during December 16-17, 2005, to examine the issues, challenges, and strategies related to "Talent Management in China."  More than 10 thought leaders from academic, corporate, and consulting worlds are being invited to present and share their ideas, research, and experience on this topic.  Based on the invited papers and presentations from this Forum, a Special Issue of the Human Resource Management Journal (Wiley) will be published in 2006 with Professor Arthur Yeung as Guest Editor.
