The entrepreneurial spirit of the Chinese coupled with the growth of small and medium sized enterprises is without paragon in the world. It is without doubt one of the key factors in the rapid modernization of China. In March 2004, the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) established the CEIBS Centre of Entrepreneurship (the Centre).
CEIBS Centre of Entrepreneurship was established to:
---Provide service and guidance for students and alumni who are interested in starting and developing new businesses;
---Promote education and research on entrepreneurship and family business in China;
---Establish a platform for academic research in the area of entrepreneurship and strategies in closely held firms.
Current activities of the Centre include:
Advisory Board
Advisory Board for the CEIBS Centre of Entrepreneurship are made up of some successful businessmen, prominent researchers, and some experienced investors. They meet regularly to discuss and mentor all the projects and activities which the Centre initiates and participates.
Entrepreneurship Club
As one part of service network that CEIBS could offer, the Centre oversees the activities and development of CEIBS MBA Entrepreneurship Club and provides guidance and help for CEIBS Alumni Entrepreneurship Club which composes around 100 members.
Academic Research
Other than efforts in teaching, the Centre of Entrepreneurship is also committed to improving the academic research at CEIBS and conducting entrepreneurship projects. E.g. The Centre signed an agreement on entrepreneurship research with Shantou municipal government in Guangdong Province. Over a period of one-year, the researchers in the Centre will produce a series of evaluations and reports to the government on how to foster the new business creation in the city.
Outreach Activities: Management Development Programmes
We have also developed programmes for Entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium size business from different provinces supported by their local government e.g. Xiang Xing Province. The project we have recently finished is a three-day executive training about strategy and business ethics for entrepreneurs from Changxing County in Zhejiang Province.
Business Plan Competitions
CEIBS has introduced courses on entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. Both courses are taught by the famous professors in China or other international universities. After having concluded the course, the Centre will organize the business plan competition respectively for profit-making projects and social entrepreneurship projects, where the venture capitals are invited to review their business plans.
Investor Forums
Since its establishment, the CEIBS Centre of Entrepreneurship has hosted two annual Investor Forums: These are open platforms for entrepreneurs and investors to meet one another to discuss opportunities and cooperation. Some participating companies have obtained external investment by attending these Forums.
Case Seminars
The Centre is organising a series of case seminars on those Chinese enterprises which have been listed in overseas markets. The first two seminars were focused on Linktone (LTON-NASDAQ) and Ctrip.Com (CTRP-NASDAQ).
Additional research, outreach projects and events of the Centre will include:
