Why the Centre Was Established
CEIBS Centre of Entrepreneurship was launched in March 2004, through funds provided by the Government of Spain.
As China undergoes socioeconomic transitions, the private sector is playing a more and more important role in society. The China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), the number one business school in Asia has established its own Centre of Entrepreneurship to serve two purposes. On the one hand, it intends to provide both theoretical and practical guidance for entrepreneurs that are hungry for entrepreneurial knowledge. On the other hand, it serves as an opportunity to bring out entrepreneurial talents and increase the research in the area. The Centre of Entrepreneurship will also build close relationships with the school's Entrepreneurship Club and Alumni Entrepreneurship Club, which organizes regular activities that aim to enhance interactions and communications among its members, venture capitalists and experts in the field.
The establishment of the Centre of Entrepreneurship is made possible through funds provided by the Government of Spain. This generous donation has offered both faculty and participants in CEIBS a brand-new opportunity to acquire innovative business ideas and start up new businesses by exploring and updating knowledge on innovation and entrepreneurship. Venture capital funds are also being set up by contributions from public and private institutions in Europe, the U.S.A. and other nations.
The Centre has been organizing a series of colourful and instructive activities, for example, courses on entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship, business plan competitions and mini MBA courses for social entrepreneurs, and more. On September 18, 2004, a national Forum of Investors was held, aiming to promote communications between entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Other than efforts in teaching, the Centre is also committed to improving the academic research at CEIBS and conducting entrepreneurship projects. The Centre signed an agreement on entrepreneurship research with Shantou municipal government in Guangdong Province. Over a period of one-year, the researchers in the Centre will produce a series of evaluations and reports to the government on how to foster the new business creation in the city.
