Introduction: Due to the huge success of the 1st Lujiazui Forum, the issue of Shanghai’s rise as an international financial center is getting more public attention. Admittedly, there is still a long way to go to turn the dream into reality. Against this backdrop, the CEIBS Lujiazui International Finance Research Center would like to cordially invite you to attend the 9th Lujiazui Finance Salon. This forum’s host, Dr. Fang Xinghai, will enlighten our guests about Shanghai’s Path to an International Financial Center. Issues to be discussed include: What’s the best strategy for Shanghai to achieve its objective as an international financial center? How should Shanghai differentiate from other mainland cities and other Asian financial centers? Is it possible for the central government to give Shanghai substantially preferential policy? How about an offshore market?What specific actions should be taken to turn Shanghai into a center for asset management? Is it possible to deduct local income taxes to attract finance talent? Biography: Dr. Fang is director-general of the Shanghai Municipal Financial Service Office. He holds his bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University and PhD in Economics from Stanford University. He is also adjunct professor of CEIBS and senior research fellow of the National Centre for Economic Research, Tsinghua University. He was previously an economist in the World Bank, director of Coordination Office of China Construction Bank, secretary-general of China Galaxy Securities Company Limited, deputy general manager of Shanghai Stock Exchange. Dr. Fang’s research interests include International Finance, Financial Market, Macro Economy, etc., with publications on reform and opening of China’s financial system and development of financial market.
