Introduction: Since the implementation of reform and opening policy 29 years ago, China has gained great economic success driven by its market-oriented reform, and is playing an important role in stable development of global economy. Along current road, China stands a good chance to develop into an economic superpower by the mid-21st century. However, there still exist some difficulties and challenges. Prof. Wu will share his insights into the future of China’s economy.

Biography: Prof. Wu Jinglian is Baosteel Chair Professor of Economics at CEIBS, senior research fellow at the Development Research Centre of the State Council of the PRC, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and also professor of economics at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He had been member of the Academic Council of CEIBS for a long time since the school was founded and has been a faculty member at CEIBS since 1996. In September 2005, Prof. Wu was elected as member of current Executive Committee (2005-2008) of International Economic Association (IEA). He also serves as independent director in the boards of several listed companies. Prof. Wu graduated from Fudan University majoring in Economics and was a visiting fellow and professor at Yale University, MIT and Stanford University in the USA and Oxford University, UK. His main research interests are theoretical economics, comparative institutional analysis, and theory and policy of the economic reform of China. He is the author of numerous books, including A Market Economy under the Rule of Law: an Urgent Need of the Times in 2007, Reform: Now at a Critical Point in 2001 and Fifteen Critical Issues of the Reform of SOEs in 1999. His new book published recently in English is Understanding and Interpreting Chinese Economic Reform.
