Internship - Company Guide
What Is an Internship?
The student internship is an important component of the CEIBS MBA curriculum. In the course of conducting the internship, students will have the opportunity to extend their current business experience and to apply and test the knowledge and skills they have acquired at CEIBS. The internship also provides an opportunity for host companies to identify prospective employees among MBA interns and for MBA students to know the host companies as prospective employers.
In the past, CEIBS MBA internships have been completed in most functional areas of management including finance and accounting, marketing and sales, human resource management, purchasing and organizational change. There is no requirement that the host organizations be commercial companies because many other forms of organization (for example, governments, hospitals and educational institutions) employ managers in highly demanding roles. All that CEIBS requires is that the internship offers opportunities for the development of managerial competence.

How to Get MBA Students to Do an Internship in My Company?
This is a simple process outlined in the seven steps below:
- Prospective internship host company sends the internship proposal form to CDC at CEIBS with detailed description of the internship project.
- CDC sends the host company a copy of CEIBS MBA2004 student CV book and a list of students applying for the internship.
- The host company selects interview candidates (including alternatives) and informs CDC the interview time slots at least 2 working days prior to the interview.
- CDC confirms with the host company the list of interviewees and arranges interviews.
- The host company conducts interviews (telephone interviews).
- The host company discusses with the selected candidate(s) about project planning, mentor assignment and logistics including accommodation and transportation.
- We recommend that students should be given at most 2 weeks to respond to an offer. The host company shall confirm hiring outcome to CDC before Feb 20, 2005.
- The host company shall finalize the internship agreement with the student before Feb. 28, 2004.
What Else Should I Consider?
- For domestic internships, most host companies pay each intern a minimum monthly living allowance of 4,000 RMB, in addition to reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses directly relevant to the internship.
- For overseas internships, CEIBS asks that the host company send an invitation letter to the student as soon as possible to ensure that CEIBS has enough time to arrange for passports and visa. It is also important that the host company covers the costs of international travel, insurance and accommodation, and gives some pocket money according to local living standards. Meanwhile, we would suggest that you finalize the internship agreement with the student as early as possible considering the extra time needed for visa or work permit application.
- Every year, the European Union provides some scholarship to CEIBS MBA students doing internships in companies in an EU member state or the European branches of Chinese companies.
