Founded in October, 1977, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra (BSO),is one of the most well known orchestras in present day China. Maestro Tan Lihua is the orchestra's current Music Director and Principal Conductor.With Li Delun and Huang Feili, two most sought after maestros in China, as its advisers, the BSO has made rapid progress.Being the symphony orchestra of the nation's capital, the BSO has many musicians of great artistic attainments, who have received awards in many competitions.Since its establishment, the BSO has gained approval and praises from audience owing to its deep artistic accomplishment, wide range of performances, and unique Chinese style. It has now become one of the most popular orchestras in China.
Since the 1990s, the orchestra had undergone adjustment on a great scale with the support of Beijing Municipal Government. Led by Tan Lihua, its music director, the BSO made progress in its performing skills through hard work and diligent practice. As a professional orchestra, it gives performance during the music season. In addition to the regular concerts conducted by its music director, the BSO has also collaborated with many esteemed conductors from all over the world. Every year, the orchestra presents over 80 concerts. The pieces and styles represent a wide variety of genres and tastes.In addition, the BSO has taken part in many international cultural exchanges on behalf of the nation and the capital.
